Privacy Policy
How Freedom Planner handles your data — transparent, minimal, and under your control.
Overview
Freedom Planner helps you manage credit card debt. We collect as little data as possible and never sell your information. This page describes how data is stored and processed in the current version of the app.
Data controller
Simon Middleton is the data controller for Freedom Planner, operating the service as a sole trader. Freedom Planner is not yet a limited company.
For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected].
If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal data, please contact us at that address first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint (helpline 0303 123 1113; Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF).
Using the app without an account
If you use Freedom Planner as a guest, your credit card and budget data stays in your browser's localStorage. It is not uploaded to our servers. Clearing your browser data or switching devices will remove that local copy unless you export a backup file.
Using the app with an account
When you create an account, we store your email address and basic account details on our servers so you can sign in and manage your subscription.
Your financial data (cards, balances, budgets, and related settings) is encrypted in your browser using AES-GCM before it is synced to our cloud storage (Cloudflare KV). We only store the encrypted ciphertext — we cannot read your card numbers, balances, or other financial details without your password.
Your password is used to derive the encryption key and is never sent to us in plain text. If you forget your password, encrypted cloud data cannot be recovered.
Calendar subscription (optional)
If you create a live calendar feed (webcal), we store only the reminder metadata needed to build your feed (for example card names, due dates, and promotional end dates)—not balances, APR, or payment amounts. The feed is accessed via a private URL that includes a secret token; anyone with that link can read the reminder metadata, so treat it like a password. Data is kept for up to one year and can be extended when you refresh the feed from the app while signed in. You can stop using a feed by removing it from your calendar app; we delete stored feed data when you delete your account (for subscription IDs you have created in this browser) or when the retention period ends.
Payments
Pro and Lifetime subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number — Stripe handles payment details under their own privacy policy.
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics to understand how the app is used (for example, page views and feature usage). Plausible is privacy-friendly: it does not use advertising cookies and does not track you across other websites. See Cookies and browser storage to manage your preference.
Your controls
You can manage your data at any time:
- Export your data from Settings → Data Management
- Import a previous backup to restore or move data
- Delete local browser data by clearing site storage
- Opt out of analytics from the Cookies and browser storage section or the site banner
- Manage or cancel your subscription from Settings or the billing portal
